Remote Instrumentation Services in Grid Environment BoF Session Session leaders: Marcin Płóciennik

Agenda State of art in the Remote Instrumentation Services area Objectives of RISGE research group Discussion Conclusions

Interest Our goal: To establish research group Project engaged/interested in the session and creation of that group: –RINGrid, int.eu.grid, GRIDCC, g-Eclipse, DEGREE, BalticGrid, VLab Invitation for common booth at OGF/EGEE, stand no.2

Presentations agenda Instrumentation requirements for advanced e- Infrastructures (Norbert Meyer) Collaboratorive environment and workflow decomposition for remote instrumentation (Roberto Pugliese) Interactive controlling and monitoring of applications in grid environment (Jesus Marco) Interactive grid framework standardization in Eclipse environment (Harald Kornmayer) Visualisation in grid environment (Dieter Kranzlmueller)

RISGE Main Objective To integrate and standardise approaches in defining remote access interfaces to instruments and sophisticated laboratory equipment in e-Infrastructure environments

Specific objectives - discussion Provide an overview of existing solutions and best practices for interactive service-oriented infrastructures Research and document: –The state of the art in grid and network infrastructures in areas connected with laboratory equipment sharing –Existing standards allowing the use of lab devices remotely Integrating research: interactivity, visualisation in a workflow of remote instrumentation Resource virtualisation

Our focus? - discussion Some ideas: Research on new common architecture for remote instrumentation Indicating future directions of grid and network functionality development to facilitate access to research infrastructure Act as a liaison to the grid community and equipment final users in general

Summary – next steps ? prepare a list of final objectives (not to touch all objectives of the mentioned projects but a focus line ) present best practises –what can be taken from existing projects and other research and working groups –establish the priorities of objectives Work out white papers of the current state Work on specific objectives –roadmap for each objective
