F AILURE L EADS TO S UCCESS Advisory

F AILURE L EADS TO S UCCESS Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, only this time more wisely. Henry Ford

F AILURE L EADS TO S UCCESS Sometimes it takes not succeeding to become better. Take a few minutes and think of some people who would not be where they are today or as famous as they are if it was not for failures in their lives. Can you name some of these people? Let’s look at a few of these people.

M ICHAEL J ORDAN Many people might say that Michael Jordan is the best person to every play the game of basketball, but did you know that: Jordan at first had trouble standing out on the school team. In fact, only a year after joining the team, as a tenth grader, he was cut from the varsity team. But this only pushed him to work harder at perfecting his game. As he later said on his Web site, "I think that not making the Varsity team drove me to really work at my game, and also taught me that if you set goals, and work hard to achieve them—the hard work can pay off."

M ICHAEL J ORDAN “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” Michael Jordan

H ELEN K ELLER Helen Keller is another person who has overcome many obstacles in her life. Watch the following video.

H ELEN K ELLER

H ELEN K ELLER What are some of the obstacles Helen Keller faced? What are some of the obstacles the girl who’s parents were deaf faced? What would you do in this situation?

W ALT D ISNEY Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because “he lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” He went bankrupt several times before he built Disneyland. In fact, the proposed park was rejected by the city of Anaheim on the grounds that it would only attract riffraff.

W ALT D ISNEY Currently there are Disney resorts in California, Florida, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Many famous movies are also Disney movies such as Toy Story, Mars Needs Moms, Lion King, Tangled and many, many more.

A LBERT E INSTEIN Albert Einstein did not speak until he was 4 years old or read until he was 7. One of his teachers described him as “mentally slow, unsociable, and adrift forever in foolish dreams.” He was expelled from school and was refused admittance to the Zurich Polytechnic School.

A LBERT E INSTEIN He developed the Theory of Relativity And some may consider him to be the smartest man to live. Below is a picture of Albert Einstein after her received the Nobel Prize.

C HARLES S CHULTZ Charles Schultz had every cartoon he submitted rejected by his high school yearbook staff. And Walt Disney would not hire him. Charles Schultz is the creator of the Peanuts comic strip which includes Charlie Brown and Snoopy.

F AILURE L EADS TO S UCCESS Think about the people we just talked about. Would they be as famous as they are without failure in their lives? “Only those who dare to fail greatly can achieve greatly.” Robert F. Kennedy

I F YOU HAVE TIME Watch the following video if you have time.
