NASA Science Mission Directorate Earth Science Division TEMPO and the Earth Venture program Ken Jucks & Alex Pszenny

Venture Class within the NASA Earth Science Division We can do it! It’s an experiment to get hardware to space at a lower cost. Industry likes that we are doing it! It’s an experiment to get hardware to space at a lower cost. The NASA centers like that we are doing it! Congress (at least SOME of them) like that we are doing it! 2

Why TEMPO for EVI-1? I can’t tell you ALL the reasons! I am not permitted to debrief proposers on all the programmatic discussions on each proposal. But I can say some things (most are obvious) The reviews suggest relatively low risk, both from science and from TMC. The agency does like the hosted payload approach idea! The science was sufficiently compelling! 5

Where Does TEMPO go from here? Through a boat load of reviews! Get to know NPR E! It is your friend! The next step is to go through the Systems Requirement Review (SRR) before it goes to the KDP-B DPMC. Can anyone name these acronyms? Acronyms are your friend in NASA! Get to know your Program Scientist(s) and Program Executive. Mitra Dutta could not be here. Alex Pszenny will be assuming more and more of the TEMPO PS duties 6

Next phases of Earth Venture The next Earth Venture Suborbital (EVS-2) is open now with proposals not due until January The next Earth Venture Instrument (EVI-2) draft is available. The final version will be out VERY soon with proposals due exactly 3 months later. The next Earth Venture Mission (EVM-2) will have it’s draft available ~18 months from now, budget willing. 7
