2 Methods In the tradition of Kurt Hahn*), we strongly believe that to explain the Award is not enough, and that we also have to take care that its spirit can be experienced in every single seminar. Hence, in Summer School, “learning by doing” is the most important seminar method. *) Kurt Hahn, “inventor” of the Award, was born (1886) and died (1974) in Germany

3 Programme: Courses Different Courses –Award Basics: Leaders‘ Course (LC) –Delivering the Expeditions‘ Section: Expedition Course (EC) –Award Management: Officers‘ Course (OC – Management Game) –“Six Pathways”: Workshops Different usage of these courses –New / young leaders: Get profound first training –Leaders: Broaden and deepen their knowledge –Experienced leaders: Training of Trainers Course*) –Gold Participants: Residential Project *) Starts one day earlier

4 Programme: Time Schedule Tuesday, 26th August 2008 –Evening*): Arrival and Introduction Wednesday, 27th August 2008 –Leaders’ Course / Expedition Course Thursday, 28th August 2008 –Morning: Leaders’ Course / Expedition Course –Afternoon: Award Management Game Friday, 29th August 2008 –Award Management Game Saturday, 30th August 2008 –Morning: Workshops –Afternoon: Cultural programme Sunday, 31st August 2008 –Departure *) Training the Trainers: one day earlier!

5 Leaders‘ Course This course is mainly aimed at people –who either have not yet participated in an Award Leaders Course or –who want to broaden or refresh their knowledge. Main topics are –Award Philosophy & Process –Mini-Expedition –Designing individual programmes –Development Plan.

6 Expedition Course This Course is meant for people who are or want to become trainers, supervisors or assessors for Bronze or Silver Expeditions. Heart of the course is a Training Expedition which is going to be supervised by the participants of the course. Main topics are –The Expeditions section: Principles & Process –The Art of Supervising –Training Expedition –Delivering the Expeditions section.

7 Award Management Game This course addresses people responsible for (part of) the work of an Operating Authority. The management game is supposed to prepare them for their different tasks or to improve their work in different areas. Main stages are –Introduction: “Six Pathways” –The Game: Rules, technics, scenario –Round 1: Trial & Error –Round 2: Cast off! –Round 3: Amidst real Award live –Round 4: Broadening and deepening –Evaluation.

8 Workshops Based on the different courses and their own experiences participants choose between different subjects regarding the work with the Award or IASS, e.g. –Award literature & media –Award Development Plan –IASS Documentation –Photography workshop –Portraying participants –Reviewing Award activities –Six Pathways: specific issues –...
