( 一 ) 教材分析 本单元的中心话题是 “ 音乐 ” 。在第一课时 里，学生已经完成了 Warming up, Pre-reading, reading, comprehending 部分的内容，也就是 达到了 Reading for 1)information 2)comprehending, 3)enjoyment 的教学目标。 本课属第二课时，是一节以词汇学习和词汇运 用为主的语言学习课，通过完成书上 的 ”Learning about language” 中的 “discovering useful words and expressions” 部分的练习和 一些课堂活动，使学生能熟练掌握阅读文章中 的重点词汇及短语。

2.Have you ever dreamed of being one of them? Play a game called “What is your dream?” (Work in pairs and tell each other your dream and what you expect to happen. Use the phrases dream of and honest with in your sentences.)

Examples: S1: I dreamed of becoming an important writer. But to be honest with you, I know I shall be very lucky if I work for a newspaper. S2: I dreamed of being a film star. But to be honest with you, I know I cannot act well.

Step2 Intensive reading for language

1.Ask students to read the text carefully again and discover the useful words and expressions(even wonderful sentences) they think. Collect the useful words and expressions they find out in the passage. (It is better to present them on the blackboard.)

The Beatles

The biggest band in the world The Beatles are probably the most famous pop group in the world.On radio stations across the world, a Beatles song is being played every second of every day. The group split up in 1970, but their music is still poplar today. In fact, 1996 was the group’s most successful year as the group released( 发行 ) three new double albums, which sold over 20 million copies, and they made a lot of money.

The original group was made up of 4 yong men, who began playing together in Three years later, in May 1962, the group signed a contrast( 合同 ) with a record company. The Beatles first single “love me do”,was released in October The bands catchy( 易记的 ) tunes and simple love lyrics made them popular immediately. In 1963, the band became the first to have three No.1 singles and two No.1 albums in a row.

By the end of 1963, the Beatles were the most popular group in Europe and America. They sold millions of records, and their supporters copied their hairstyles and clothes. They never expected they would be so famous. During the next two years, Europe and America went crazy for the Beatles. The group played hundreds of wonderful concerts all over the world. In August 1965, they set another record by playing to the largest ever concert audience— about 55,600 people, including many famous film stars and great singers.

From 1966 until 1970, the Beatles released six more albums and all of them went to No.1 in the charts. In 1970, the band split up. Sadly, one member of the band —John Lennon was shot dead outside his department building in New York in December The remaining three Beatles occasionally( 偶尔 ) release new records.
