Background 100s of portals around in HPC/Grid domain. Multiple definitions of portals. Web Portal Grid Portal Access Grid Portal Issues Couldnt reuse much- quite tightly coupled Reinvention, refunding, resolving same problems

Portlets JSR168 standard for portlet Supported by Sun, IBM, Oracle, HP, Apache, Documentum, Vignette (Content Management Commercial softwares) etc GridSphere – framework to built portals supporting the JSR 168 standard. Project funded by GridLab (European funded). IBMs Websphere based. NMI Portals group – OGCE ogce.org/nmi/index.jsp they primarily focus on making portlets and support various JSR168 based portal containers. ogce.org/nmi/index.jsp
