on holiday / on one’s holidays 意为 “ 在度假， 在休假 ” 。 go on holiday 表示 “ 去度假 ” 。例如： Language points 1. Where are you going on holiday, Tony? 你假期打算去哪儿, 托尼 ? Jack and his family went on holiday the day before yesterday. Mr Smith is away on holiday now.

2. How long did it take to get there? 你花了多长时间到那里的？ (1) how long 意为 “ 多长时间 ” ，用来对 for 等表示时间段的状语提问。如： — How long did you stay in this city? — For about two weeks.

(2) It takes sb. some time to do sth. 表示 “ 某人花费多长时间做某事 ” ， it 是形式主 语，动词不定式 to do 是真正的主语。 昨晚我用了半个小时做作业。 It took me half an hour to do my homework last night. Practise

3. Then our friends met us and drove us to their home. 然后我们的朋友与我们碰面，并开车将 我们送回他们家。 (1) meet 在本句中的意思是 “ （到机场、车 站等）迎接 ” 。在本文中还有一句提到了 meet ，但意思不同，注意区分。 I met Snow White and Mickey Mouse! meet 的意思为 “ 见到、遇见 ” 。
