Presentation transcript:

Please read the instructions before you start the PPT DO’s Brevity in usage of text: Restrict text to bullet points or keyword- headings in slide areas. If you need to describe anything using sentences, the best place for that would be the ‘notes’ section of each slide. Follow a structure of objectives- introduction-main explanation- conclusion Add a work sheet to every topic you make, put it at the end of your slide show Be as specific as possible about defining your topic. For instance, take the topic of interest (math). This is a broad heading and can include just the concept OR the application of the concept OR even an advanced sub topic. Ensure the title of your topic gives as specific a snapshot as possible. Add a youtube video, topic specific. Use more pics downloaded from wikipedia Add more slides if required  DON’T’S  Don’t have text in paragraphs and don’t fill the slide only with text. Have a mix of both pics and text in each slide  Don’t add more then two subtopics in one slide  Do not use different fonts and text size. Maintain the standard fonts  Don’t deviate from the topic  Don’t add pics from the restricted sites

How do I create a tutorial ? So you're in and you've picked a topic you're good at, but you're not sure how to start. We've come up with a set of guidelines to help you with that. Read the following and treat it like the holy truth : Start small: Do you have a penchant for arithmetic calculations ? Then pick a small topic within it, such as addition of fractions. The idea is to pick as small a topic as possible. Download the index pages of the textbooks to get an idea of available chapters and topics. State your purpose: Your first slide/ opening sheet should contain the intent-a simple and meaningful one. Ask yourself the question 'At the end of this slide show, what new skill will the student have ?'. (Example: 'At the end of this tutorial, the student will know how to add fractional numbers') Picture perfect: Use visual content (pictures/videos/ animations) wherever possible- the more, the merrier ! (watch out for copyright content. Wikipedia is a good place to find free-to-use multimedia). Words? Really?: chunky paragraphs of explanation are a no-no. Avoid using lengthy sentences or explanations. Think of it this way: each word that goes into the slide is a penalty point. Having said that, we understand there may be a few exceptions. All explanatory sentences go to the notes section. (At least) Second time's a charm: If this is the first time time your attempting such a feat, then have patience. Don't expect to impress (or be impressed yourself) with your first draft. We're all explaining topics after years of reflection and pondering. This tends to make our approaches rather complex. The only tool that helps you break the seeming complexity is reflecting on your own finished work and going back to the drawing board if needed. Share your thoughts: The slides you make will be used by teachers to present. If there are any notes/cautions/background information you believe will help the teacher, put it in the notes section, and not in the main slide area. For subject like English, fish out the hard words, make sentences, provide more info about the Author, famous personalities related to the topic. Add more info from other sources relevant to the specific topics Be very crisp and clear, easy to understand
