Five Types Forests
Forests Smokies are made up of many short peaks and ridges that are diversely forested. Unlike the Himalayas that are treeless, relatively young, and have 14 of the worlds highest peaks.

5 forests 2. Northern Hardwood-middle to upper elevations(3,500- 5,000 ft) New England type forest. Sugar Maple, American Beech, Yellow Birch. Great colors. Every 1000 ft elev.=250 miles N.

5 forests 3. Pine Oak-drier slopes, well drained, fire is important. Red, scarlet, black and chestnut oaks, along with pines-mostly white.
