Photo Essay! By: Katelyn Varner -All pictures in this photo essay were used with permission of Robert Doughty.

The Greenwood High School Cheerleading team held a cheer clinic for little girls at the Prime Tyme gym to help raise money for our team. This is my niece Josie getting acquainted with everyone there. This was her first time ever cheerleading and she was stoked. She already knew a little girl who was there so that made her feel a little more comfortable.

Josie and the rest of the little girls are stretching for the fun time they are about to have. We took them through the normal routine of the beginning of an everyday practice for us cheerleaders. While we were stretching, Josie had to explain how old she was and where she went to school.

This is where she was warming up her jumps. We taught her how to do a high v and how to move your hands and feet through each jump. Josie was so psyched that she was getting taught how to cheer by the GHS cheer team. Lets just say, she was in her element.

In this picture, Josie is learning the dance we made up for the little girls. They were going to perform all these things we were teaching them, at the Senior Night football game. Josie was a little nervous when she heard this, but it made her concentrate more on what she was doing and the technique she was using.

Josie is still learning the dance, but her face was just beaming with concentration. Some of the little girls there just goofed off, but Josie had her head in the game. She really liked the dance too, because the music was sung by Selena Gomez. She loves that singer. So, that being said, the dance was no problem for her to accomplish.

Josie just got put in her official cheer spot in the routine and she was so excited. She just couldnt wait to get to senior night that was in a couple of weeks. She always wanted me to work on the routines and cheers with her, so she could do it with no fear Senior Night.

This is the team picture. Josie is by her friend. She had so much fun at the cheer clinic. She also got to perform the dance and cheer in front of all the parents that came to watch. Josie loved this experience so much, she told her mom and I that she wants to be a cheerleader when she gets older.

This picture was taken on Senior Night. Josie would have looked a little more enthusiastic, but she said it was too cold. She was cheering some basic cheers on the sidelines with the rest of the GHS Cheerleaders. She was so excited to actually get to cheer at a football game.

This is Josie and her newly made friends goofing off while waiting for the performance. In the meantime, they were shouting cheers, and waving their pom poms in the air. She was all over this cheerleading thing.

In the end, Josie loved every second of the cheerleading team. She loved it so much, that she came up to me that night and told me she wanted to be a cheerleader just like me. So her daddy signed her up for cheerleading classes and one day, as she says, she will be cheerleading at another football game with all her friends beside her.
