ATN 2002, London - 24 Sep 02 8 PETAL has demonstrated. A potential to enhance safety. CPDLC in congested continental airspace works. CPDLC possible in all sectors. Procedures and requirements validated. Pilot and controller acceptance. ICAO compliant implementation

ATN 2002, London - 24 Sep 02 9 PETAL has demonstrated. A potential to increase capacity !by reducing frequency occupation and congestion !by better balance of workload in sector teams. Voice read-back no longer necessary for non-critical clearances

ATN 2002, London - 24 Sep The Maastricht Multi-stack. Multi-stack configuration works. Accommodates FANS1/A aircraft in MAS UAC airspace to interface with the ATN SARPS compliant FDPS. Full transparency for the end-users. It takes advantage of existing FANS1/A equipped aircraft: !Potentially 10% flights in MAS UAC could be FANS1/A equipped. This translates to AGDL flights/month + Supports IRRF work. Enabler to develop joint oceanic and domestic AGDL-procedures !develop global Domestic-Oceanic Air Ground Data Link procedures (SPOM). Airlines can choose preferred protocol. Extension possible

ATN 2002, London - 24 Sep ? Benefits Now ! Operational pilot project ! Maintain momentum & gained experiences ! Encourage more airlines to use AGDL (FANS, ATN) ! Act as a catalyst for AGDL ground segment implementation in core area ! Feedback on simulated & theoretical benefits ! Support Link Programme ! Feedback into Standardisation bodies ! Data Link available to the users to obtain feedback on ! Distribution of tasks amongst sector team ! Feedback on HMI Development ! Enabler for automated functions % a/c equipage
