Second New Deal 2 major labor reforms: – National Labor Relations Act (Wagner Act) – Fair Labor Standards Act 1 major economic security reform for retired: – Social Security Act

National Labor Relations Act (Wagner Act) After Sen. Robert F. Wagner Support union and collective bargaining Major purposes:  Against threats, firing union members, and interfering with union efforts  Against corruption  Fought for fair wages

Fair Labor Standards Act Also to help union employees Major purposes:  Established minimum wage (25 cents)  Maximum hours in workweek (44 hours)  Prohibit child labor

Social Security Act Passed in 1935 Created by Frances Perkins Three major parts:  Old-age insurance for retirees and their spouses  65 and older  Unemployment compensation system  Funded by federal tax on employers  Aid to families with dependent children and disabled  Paid for by federal funds made available to states

Definitions National Labor Relations Act (Wagner Act)- helped union employees against unfair labor practices and established union rights Fail Labor Standards Act- established a minimum wage and maximum number of work hours.
