The Bible compares life on earth to temporarily living in a foreign country. 1 Peter 1:17 “Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially (fair and neutral), live your lives as strangers here (in this life) in reverent (humble and respectful to God) fear.”

Rick Warren’s Anecdote Many people who move from other parts of the world to The United States to work, may keep their citizenship with their home country. They are required to keep a registration card (called a “green card”), which allows them to work here even though they are not citizens. Christians should carry spiritual green cards to remind us that our citizenship is in Heaven.

Your identify is in eternity, and your homeland is Heaven.

James 4:4 Caution, this language may be offensive to some people. When we flirt with the temptations of this world, God calls it spiritual adultery. The Bible says, James 4:4 “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

1 Corinthians 7:31 (NLT) “Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.”

Agree or Disagree? In order to keep us from becoming too attached to earth, God allows us to feel a significant amount of discontent and dissatisfaction in life – longings that will never be fulfilled on this side of eternity.
