Presentation transcript:

A (very) short course in Business Process Modeling Notation Very similar to traditional flowcharts Only five symbols Describes the flow of work in a business

Basic Notation Events: Activity: tasks and sub-process Decisions: something that happens: Activity: tasks and sub-process Decisions: Sequence: – the flow of work or information start intermediate end

Swimlanes Pool – an actor or group that performs activities Lane – subdivision of a pool Store Sales Area Store Stockroom

Put them all together in a simple example: product purchase Customer Request Product end Pay for product end start Call stock room Inform customer Ring up sale Load car for customer Salesclerk no Stockclerk Look for product Bring product to sales Found? yes Try explaining this process out loud. Tell who is doing what, from start to finish.

Another example: a doctors visit

QUESTIONS? Look back through the two examples. Please ask any questions that occur to you. When you feel you understand, we’ll proceed.
