Presentation transcript:

 Moses’ excuses surely seemed absurd to God.  “Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt” (v 10).  Moses put forward excuse after excuse. Moses was in many respect an evangelist. All of us serve as evangelists. Jn 15:1-2. Matt 28:19-20.

Exodus 3:11-12 Why Should I Go?

 Moses to God: “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”  Don’t we say similar things to God sometimes?  Fortunately, the early church did not think like that. “Those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word” (Acts 8:4). “I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ” (Philem 6,ESV).  Moses focuses on himself.

 God says to Moses: “I will certainly be with you” (v 12).  You know that God was with Moses.  God has promised to be with us. “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt 28:20). Are you seizing Jesus’ promise to be with you, or are you making excuses?

Exodus 3:13-15 What If They Don’t Understand Me?

 Moses to God: “God, suppose I go to the people, and they say to me, ‘Which God sent you?’”  God to Moses: “I AM WHO I AM.... Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”  God here emphasizes His eternal nature.  “This is My name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.”

Exodus 4:1 What If They Don’t Believe Me?

 Moses to God: “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The L ORD has not appeared to you.’”  Notice how God responded to Moses.  He gave him the ability to perform three miracles (vv 2- 9).  Miracles in the first century confirmed the Word. “They went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs” (Mk 16:20). “God also [bore] witness [to the word of truth] both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will” (Heb 2:4).

 God gave Moses & the apostles signs to establish faith in what Moses & the apostles taught.  God still enables people to produce faith. We must use Scripture to produce faith. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom 10:17). “From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim 3:15). We cannot tell people opinions or feelings or ideas. “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11).

Exodus 4:10-11 What If They Can’t Understand Me?

 Moses to God: “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”  Really?  God to Moses: “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the L ORD ?”  “To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability” (Matt 25:15).  Rom 12:6-8.

 A couple points:  We have different abilities.  We each have talents.  Are you using your talents to the glory of God?
