Lesson 22: God’s Will For His People (part V)

 Why God gives us money and possessions:  To support ourselves and our families  To support the work of the church  To support the poor and needy  To support the government

I Timothy 6:6-10 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Help our neighbor to improve his property, and to protect his property. The Eighth commandment: You shall not give false testimony Gift of speech comes from God, to be used for his purposes. We are responsible to God for the way we use this gift.

 False testimony = using one’s tongue for evil purposes, with a false heart.  1. Don’t tell lies about your neighbor.  2. Don’t betray your neighbor to hurt him.  3. Don’t give your neighbor a bad name (gossip, slander).
