Where it All Started Chocolate all started as a bitter, powdered drink made by the Mayans. The knowledge of the drink spread to the Aztecs and then to the Spanish. Eventually chocolate became popular in all European countries.
Chocolate houses were the place where the rich hung out to drink chocolate. In 1730 a machine was made that could grind chocolate and make it cheaper. In 1847 the first chocolate bar was made in England. John Cadbury opened his chocolate shop in 1824 The Road to Popularity
