Presentation transcript:

Dirty Feet Mike Mazzalongo BibleTalk.tv

Dirty Feet 7  Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.” Luke 22:7-8

Dirty Feet 9 They said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare it?” 10 And He said to them, “When you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters. Luke 22:9-10

Dirty Feet 11 And you shall say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 12 And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there.” Luke 22:11-12

Dirty Feet 13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover. Luke 22:13

The Last Supper

Dirty Feet 24 And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest. Luke 22:24

Wash Basin

Dirty Feet 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, 4 *got up from supper, and *laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself. John 13:3-4

Dirty Feet 5 Then He *poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. John 13:5

Dirty Feet 6 So He *came to Simon Peter. He *said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter.” John 13:6-7

Dirty Feet 8 Peter *said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “ If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” 9 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.” John 13:8-9

Dirty Feet 10 Jesus *said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.” John 13:10-11

Dirty Feet The Foot-Washing was a “Living Parable” that pointed to what was to come.

Be careful not to ritualize what is suppose to be practical. Lessons Be careful not to ritualize what is suppose to be practical.

Lessons Realize that the foot washing lesson is really about washing dirty feet.

12 So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. John 13:12-13

14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. John 13:14-15

16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. John 13:16-17

If Jesus can, You can

If Jesus can, You can It’s about action not ritual

If Jesus can, You can It’s about action not ritual Foot washing brings blessings

Lessons The lesson of the Dirty Feet is as much for us Today as it was for the Apostles.

If you’ve been “washed” by Him then washing dirty feet is the way to follow Him.

Two Questions Have You Been Washed? Whose Dirty Feet Have You Washed Lately?

“This is how all men will know that you are my disciples, in the way you love (wash dirty feet) one another” John 13:35
