ISA. 49:8-9 2 COR. 6:1-2 An Acceptable Time

Introduction When is the right time to turn to God? When is an acceptable time for obedience? When is the day of salvation? This significant thought finds expression in both the Old and New Testaments (Isa. 49:8-9; 2 Cor. 6:1-2).

In Times of Sin King David found forgiveness when he humbly turned to God in confession and repentance (Psa. 32:1-11, esp. vs. 6). We also must turn to God in times of sin and spiritual sickness.

In Seasons of Suffering Recognizing that distress comes from without and within, the Psalmist knew the necessity of turning to God in the hour of adversity (Psa. 69:5-19, esp. vs. 13). We also must turn to God in times of suffering and sorrow.

In the Day of Salvation Foreshadowing the coming of the Messiah, the Prophet Isaiah anticipated the promise of salvation that would be extended to Jews and Gentiles alike (Isa. 49:1-13, esp. vs. 8-9). We must turn to God while there is time and opportunity.

Conclusion Recognizing that one can receive the grace of God in vain, let us respond to Him in an acceptable time. This includes days of blessing and also of misfortune, times of tranquility and also of trial, seasons of success, and also of failure. If you are outside God’s favor and fellowship, let today be the day of salvation (Isa. 55:1-13, esp. vs. 6- 7).
