Many new features have been added to match current requirements in networking –Flow Control –Spanning Tree Protocol –Port Trunking –Port Mirroring –Broadcast Storm Protection –VLAN's –Multicast Filtering w/Querier –Class Of Service –Authentication –ACL - Access Control Lists LION – 24-TP Additional Features

 Flow Control allows you to manage network traffic during congestion periods and to prevent the loss of packets when port buffer thresholds are exceeded. This feature is disabled on all ports by default.  Spanning tree Protocol allows redundant connections to be created between different LAN segments for the purposes of fault tolerance. Two or more physical paths between different segments can be created through the switch, with Spanning tree protocol choosing a single path at any given time to be active, while the other would be passive. If the primary path should fail for any reason, then the backup/standby link would be activated.  Port Trunking allows you to combine ports into an aggregate connection between switches. Besides load sharing, port trunking also provides redundancy by taking over the load of a link that fails. The LION allows up to 4 ports of the same media type to be "trunked" together. LION – 24-TP Flow Control

LION – 24-TP Spanning/Rapid Spanning tree  Port Mirroring is the ability to mirror UNIcast traffic from one port to another port for the purposes of traffic analysis. Only one port can be mirrored to another at any one time and the speed will be mirrored as well.  Broadcast storm protection prevents broadcast traffic from overwhelming the network. When enabled on a port, the level of braodcast traffic passing through a port is restricted.  VLAN's allow you to connect or isolate users to or from a specific LAN segment regardless of their physical location.  Multicast Filtering enables the switch to properly and efficiently direct multicast traffic to a specific port or ports instead of flooding the network with multicast traffic.

LION – 24-TP Additional Features  Class of Service ensures that low-priority traffic during congestion periods will not interfere with traffic assigned a higher priority.  Authentication manages access to the switch via the console port, telnet or web interface. User names and passwords can be configured locally or can be verified via a remote authentication server. Port based authentication is also supported.  ACL or Access Control Lists can be implemented to improve performance by blocking unnecessary network traffic by restricting access to specific network resources.
