The Ocean By: Samantha Owings Courtney Strothoff Bryan Davidson James Shell

Geography Area: 140 million miles 2 71% Earth's surface. Avg Depth: 12,200 ft Deepest point: 36,198ft Mariana Trench in the western Pacific. Mountains: The ocean ridges form mountain range (40,000 miles) Largest single feature on Earth. The top 10ft of ocean hold as much heat as our entire atmosphere oceans provide 99 percent of the Earth's living space 90% is abyss The Pacific Ocean is so big it could fit all of the Earth’s continents

Meteorology Ocean water 3.5% salt average temperature 3.9 °C (39 F). Below the thermo clines temperatures decrease slowly to about F 92 per cent of the entire sea-floor has a temperature lower than 40 degrees ocean surface water is about 17 °C (62.6 F). So even though surface waters can be a comfortable 20 degrees Celsius (good for swimming in!), the majority of our ocean water has a temperature between 0- 3 degrees Celsius ( degrees Fahrenheit).

Botany Sea lettuce Eelgrass Widgeon Grass Is the study of plant life in an environment. The ocean has a great variety of plant life. There is an un known number of different plants because only 10% has been explored.

Zoology Hundreds of different fish to cover each square foot Fish have about five different adaptations –Sleek bodies –Gills –Eyes on the sides of their heads –Fins –Color coded skin Most herbivores and the larger ones are carnivores The main kinds of large animals in the sea are whales, dolphins, sharks, and seals. Animals and fish that live in the sea are the walrus, star fish, eel, crabs, jelly fish, and fresh and salt water fish, but this is just a small list compared to the many different kinds of fish that inhabit the marine biome.
