Presentation transcript:

ENERGY River to Microwave By Joseph, Sarah, and Grace

Background Water flows through a dam. In the dam are a series of turbines, which turn with the force of the water flowing through them. Attached to the turbine is a generator, which generates electricity The electricity goes to transformers, then to your house. Powering electronics.

Three Gorges Dam spans the Yangtze River world’s largest power station completed in turbines eventually reach 22,500 MW

Rectilinear Water moving down stream Potential gravitational energy of waterfall Water’s movement powers turbine An artificial dam can be built to increase the flow of water going through the turbine. /watch?v=rnPEtwQtmGQ /watch?v=rnPEtwQtmGQ

Rotational Water hits turbine which spins rotational energy to become electrical energy The rotational energy powers a series of gears which will provide motion to a generator. Generates electricity.

Electrical Electricity is generated by the turning of the turbine Electrical energy travels through wires Caused by the excited electrons flowing along the wire. Using A/C the process is much more effective, and is able efficiently able to deliver large amounts of power quickly and cost efficiently to the world.

EM Radiation- The Microwave Microwave oven plugs into wall Releases microwaves to heat food Microwaves “excite” water molecules Molecules bounce against each other much more frequently, heating food from the inside out.

Vibrational “Excited” molecules vibrate The molecules that bounce against each other in the food will vibrate causing frictional heat. The vibrations will vary based on the strength of the waves.

Heat Vibrations cause heat energy release Food heats up, as does the microwave heating chamber. The heat is generated by the microwaves, heat, as the lowest form of energy is the end of the cycle. The heat energy cannot be transformed, as the previous energy forms were. It is the product of many different types of energy changing state.

Thank You For Watching! Rectilinear- Water moving down stream Rotational-Water hits turbine which turns. Electrical-Caused by the excited electrons flowing along the wire. EM Radiation-Microwaves “excite” water molecules Vibration-The molecules that bounce against each other in the food will vibrate causing frictional heat. Heat-The heat is generated by the microwaves, heat, as the lowest form of energy is the end of the cycle. So you know… Hydropower is a very clean, relatively safe form of energy. The United States is 4 th in the world- after China, Canada, and Brazil Hydropower is able too provide energy from one plant for years.
