CCNP Overview

The New Routing and Switching CCNP Re-emphasis on an expertise in Routing and Switching 3 courses and 3 exams: ROUTE SWITCH TSHOOT (Troubleshooting) Removal of: ISCW (Implementing Secure Converged Wide Area Networks) ONT (Optimization Converged Cisco Networks)

Cisco Networking Academy Curricula Portfolio ROUTE: Implementing IP Routing SWITCH: Implementing IP Switched Networks TSHOOT: Troubleshooting and Maintaining IP Networks  Cisco Networking Academy Curricula Portfolio Networking for Home and Small Businesses Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP Introducing Routing and Switching in the Enterprise Designing and Supporting Computer Networks Network Fundamentals Routing Protocols and Concepts LAN Switching and Wireless Accessing the WAN CCNA Security CCNP Network Professional IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software CCNP Network Specialist Packet Tracer Security CCNA Discovery CCNA Exploration Network Associate NOTE: this is a build slide Our current portfolio consists of 13 courses IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software —provides an overview of how the internal components of a computer work The course covers laptops and portable devices, assembling/disassembling PC components, wireless connectivity, security, safety and environmental issues associated with installing, configuring and troubleshooting and a PC. CCNA Discovery (4 courses) —provides an introduction to networking. It teaches networking based on application and helps students develop foundational routing, switching, and WAN knowledge and experience, which can be applied toward entry-level careers in networking for small and medium-sized businesses. CCNA Exploration (4 courses) —provides an introduction to networking. It teaches networking based on technology. It covers routing, switching, and WAN protocols and theory at deeper levels to help students succeed in networking-related degree programs and a range of professions. CCNA Security –helps students develop a comprehensive understanding of network security concepts, and gain the knowledge and skills needed to earn the Cisco CCNA Security certification and become entry-level security specialists. CCNP (3 courses) —the CCNP curriculum focuses on the advanced routing, secure wide area access, multilayer switching, and networking management skills required to implement and maintain converged enterprise networks. The global, generally available (GA) release of TSHOOT is scheduled for April 2010, ROUTE and SWITCH will be available in July 2010. Cisco Packet Tracer — Provides a realistic simulation and visualization learning environment that supplements classroom equipment. Cisco Packet Tracer is a foundational teaching tool for CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration, withPacket Tracer activities embedded in the course content. Both curricula include embedded e-doing, which applies the principle that people learn best by interacting with computer-based activities. Interactive learning promotes the exploration of networking concepts and experimentation with tools such as Packet Tracer and Flash-based activities to help students develop a greater understanding of networking technologies. Packet Tracer activities are also available for IT Essentials and CCNA Security. Network Technician IT Essentials IT Technician Student Networking Knowledge and Skills 13

Scope and Sequence

Cisco CCNP Certification Find out more about changes to CCNP certification announced January 2010 and use our CCNP exam combination tool to show which additional exams are required, based on the exams you've already passed. CCNP Exam Combination Tool

CCNP Exam Combination Tool As a result of the revision to CCNP, the BSCI, BCMSN, COMP, ISCW and ONT exams will be reaching end of life and the last day to take those exams will be July 31, 2010. Based on the substantial overlap of test topics, passing scores achieved on BSCI, BCMSN and/or COMP will continue to be accepted for certification purposes as long as they remain valid--three years from the date passed. In contrast, ISCW and ONT will not be accepted towards CCNP certification after their retirement date. Beginning August 1, 2010, all new CCNP certifications will require a passing score on the new TSHOOT exam. These rules result in a variety of possible exam combinations for CCNP candidates, based on the timeframe for completing certification. This tool will help identify the exam combination options. Place a check mark next to the exams you have already passed, and you will see a list of exams required to complete CCNP certification. Student Responsibility

Suzhou, China SISO (Suzhou Institute for Services Outsourcing)

Suzhou Industrial Park Collaboration of Industry and Education Focus on Science, Engineering and Technology 60,000 new freshmen next year.

In General Very welcoming to Americans. Excited to meet and talk to Americans. No difference at all, just people. Okay with some level of conformity for their protection of their culture and society. But they are individuals. USA is the person who just quit smoking and is now the biggest anti-smoking advocate.

Students No sense of entitlement. Feel education is an opportunity and a privilege, not a right. Working in Teams from a young age (but they do not lose their individuality). A student is struggling someone else is helping. A student figures something out they help others. Show up early. Manage themselves (texting) Assignments done on time (not looking for extensions) Same excitement of technology as american students. Same interests as American students (music, friends, dating, fashion and NBA)

Student Responsibility You education and success is your responsibility. Come to class prepared: Come to class Be on time Pen(S) Paper Notes Organized: prior handouts, notes, etc. Read the chapter in advance Outside of class Schedule a time for reading and homework Find others to study with Missing class Ask other students BEFORE the next class what you missed Late assignments Come to my office to discuss (not over email unless you are an online student) This is for YOUR success.

Student Successes You have competition for jobs. Talk about some students who: Students who are now working as network engineers/administrators or continued on to a university Students with challenging disabilities, life circumstances and personal issues What the did: Made their education a priority Found a way to make it to class Took as many classes as possible Organized and prepared Took advantage of internships or found their own opportunities Worked hard and kept trying
