CELDT AWARENESS Patricia Holguin, Title III Access to Core Coach Cleveland Charter High School

WHAT IS THE CELDT? The CELDT stands for: California English Language Development Test

WHAT IS THE CELDT? The CELDT is administered each year in all California public schools as an initial assessment (IA) to newly enrolled students whose primary language is not English and as an annual assessment (AA) to students who are English learners.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE CELDT?  To identify students who are Limited English Proficient (LEP)  To determine the level of English language proficiency of students who are limited English proficient  To assess the progress of limited English proficient students in acquiring the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English

CELDT LEVELS OF PROFICIENCY Level 5: Advanced Level 4: Early Advanced Level 3: Intermediate Level 2: Early Intermediate Level 1: Beginning

WHY IS THE CELDT SO IMPORTANT? It is one of 3 components to Reclassify as a Fluent English Proficient student (RFEP) CELDT: Overall Performance levels of Early Advance (4) or Advance (5) with individual scores of Intermediate (3) or higher (Listening, speaking, reading, and writing) REPORT CARD: Grade of C or higher in current Core Grade level ELA class ( English class). CAHSEE: New: Pass the CAHSEE English Language Arts (ELA) Or Score a Basic, Proficient, or Advance on the CST English Language Arts (ELA)

WHY RECLASSIFY?  Gives our students the opportunity to take an elective or a different intervention course, if necessary.  Removes the label of “English Learner” (EL) or “Long Term English Learner” (LTEL)  Data shows our students who reclassify are more likely to meet A-G requirements than their EL peers and the district as a whole.  Reclassified students have access to more challenging classes that will make them college ready.

WHO WILL TAKE THE CELDT? Each of our 406 EL students!!
