9.6 Use Trig Ratios to Solve Word Problems

Hint: When solving word problems draw the picture Remember the Trig ratios previous learned in lessons 9.1-9.5 sin 𝜽 = 𝒐𝒑𝒑 𝒉𝒚𝒑 cos 𝜽= 𝒂𝒅𝒋 𝒉𝒚𝒑 tan 𝜽= 𝒐𝒑𝒑 𝒂𝒅𝒋 New vocabulary: Angle of Elevation and Depression

New vocabulary: Angle of Elevation and Depression

Lets try a Problem #1 This one is drawn for you Problem: A tree cast a shadow shown. What is the height of the tree? About 15 ft.

Lets try another #2 Problem: The Falls Incline Railway at Niagara Falls has an angle of elevation if 36°. The railway extends a horizontal distance of about 138 feet. Find the height and length of the railway. Height: 100 ft. Length: 171 ft.

You Try #3 Problem: You are standing 50 meters from a hot air balloon that is preparing to take off. The angle of elevation to the top of the balloon is 28°. Find the height of the balloon. h ? You 28° 50 meters Ans: about 26.6 m

You Try #4 Problem: You use a 12 foot ramp to load items into a van. If the floor of the van is 4 feet off the ground, what is the angle of elevation of the ramp? (Hint: draw the picture and label)
