When money is received by a business, the amount is entered in the cash receipts journal. The total of this journal is then posted as a debit to the Cash at bank ledger account. The bank will credit the business account on the bank statement, as it receives the bank or electronic deposits, as it is a liability to the bank as it owes the money to the customer.
