The Role of Development Development in Early Childhood Development throughout Adolescence Development for Early Adulthood

Classroom modifications for gifted students are rarely implemented in pre-school or early- elementary classrooms The lack of these modifications produce limited challenges and hinder cognitive growth This may be intensified amongst children living in poverty; as well as children who are culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse learners Parents, teachers, and administrators need to focus on creating optimal environments for recognizing, developing, and nurturing the strengths and talents of young gifted children. Development in Early Childhood:

Effective Differentiation for Gifted Adolescents Carefully planned and coordinated learning experiences that extend core curriculum Combining curricular strategies of enrichment with acceleration Integrated instructional strategies that engage learners at challenging levels “At a minimum, schools must ensure that gifted children are provided with appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction to support continuous growth in the regular classroom.” The National Association for Gifted Children Development throughout Adolescence:

Reduces the time necessary for gifted students to complete traditional schooling Promotes the ability for the gifted to begin contributing to society at an earlier age Continued Acceleration Options To provide information about scholarships To discuss college and career planning Training and time for school counselors to work with families Exceptionally capable gifted adults are among those most likely to contribute to the advancement of society. Development for Early Adulthood:

“Specific investment in the gifted is an important way to build a society that can help solve the society’s needs with creative interventions and organizations.” Redefining Giftedness for a New Century: Shifting the Paradigm References Research Paper
