Solar system types  There are 3 main categories of solar systems adapted for different applications:  Off-grid system  On-grid system  On-grid system with back up  Main focus: On-grid system with back up.

On-Grid System with back-up  This is the most adequate system for Lebanon to cover the daily power failures.  The on-grid system with back-up supplies electricity from the panels directly to the load.  The excess energy is sold back to the grid through “Net- metering”. The meter will turn backwards when energy is fed back to the grid and the user will only pay the net value of his consumption.  In case the grid fails and there is no sun, the back-up batteries will continue supplying the load with power.

Daytime operation: priority 1 Solar PV Panels LOAD System EDL GRID Batteries The solar panels recharge the batteries for power cutoffs as a first priority

Daytime operation: priority 2 Solar PV Panels LOAD System EDL GRID Batteries After recharging the batteries, the solar panels will supply the load with power and will sell the excess energy to the grid.

Power cutoffs: Daytime Solar PV Panels LOAD System EDL GRID Batteries If a power cutoff occurs during the day the panels will feed the load with current without resorting to batteries.

Power cutoffs: Nighttime Solar PV Panels LOAD System EDL GRID Batteries If a power cutoff occurs during the night the batteries will feed the load with current.
