6.13 The student will a) estimate angle measures, using 45°, 90°, and 180° as referents, and use the appropriate tools to measure the given angles b) measure and draw right, acute, and obtuse angles and triangles.

Vocabulary 6.13 pg 66 THE VOCABULARY SHEET WITH EXAMPLES IS LOCATED ON THE BLOG-The illustrations would not transfer to power point format Acute angle - An angle with a measurement of greater than 0 degrees and less than 90 degrees. Right angle –An angle with a measurement of exactly 90 degrees. Obtuse angle –An angle with a measurement greater than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees is considered an obtuse angle Straight Angle- 180 degrees- a straight line Ray – A line starting at an endpoint and continuing in the opposite direction is a ray. Triangle – A polygon with three sides. Protractor - A semicircular instrument for measuring and constructing angles Straightedge - A rigid flat rectangular bar, as of wood or metal, with a straight edge for testing or drawing straight lines. Diagonal - A slanted line or plane joining two nonadjacent vertices of a polygon Notice that angles are based on the circle, like cutting a piece of pie. Circles are 360 degrees, protractors are half a circle and 180 degrees Pg Directions Let’s make a protractor with our paper circles. Fold the circle in half, and then half again so that you have 4 even sections. Next, cut the circle in half. Fold on the 90 degree line and then fold again. Label. This works for angles opened on the right. ACUTE RIGHT OBTUSE Fold and glue your other half circle here. Label the other way. This works for angles that open on the left. ACUTE RIGHT OBTUSE This is why a protractor has two sets of numbers.

6.13 Starbursts pg 68 You can determine if an angle is acute, right, or obtuse by creating a starburst. Cut out angles 1-3. Make starburst and then check with protractor. You can use this to estimate degrees of an angle Pg practice
