Ecosystem Diorama Project PROJECT IS DUE OCTOBER 18TH NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS.

PART 1 Ecosystem Description! Choose an ecosystem that you would like to learn more about from one of the Earth’s 6 major ecosystems- (Desert, Grassland, Tundra, Forest, Tropical Rain Forest, Coral Reef)! Then, research your ecosystem on these websites: http://www.kidsgeo.com/geography-for-kids/0164-ecosystems.php http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/msese/earthsysflr/biomes.html http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/ http://www.ducksters.com/science/ecosystems/world_biomes.php ** You may use other kid friendly websites if you need more information!

Part 1 Continued Next, write a 3 paragraph report about your ecosystem. Each paragraph should be 5 to 8 sentences, handwritten in your own words, and DO NOT COPY WORD FOR WORD from books or the internet. • 1st paragraph: Describe the characteristics of this ecosystem. What is the climate? Where is this type of ecosystem usually found on earth? What are the biotic and abiotic factors? • 2nd paragraph: Choose 1 specific type of ecosystem. For example, you could choose the Sahara Desert if your project is about deserts. Where is this ecosystem located? What are some interesting facts about this ecosystem that make it unique? • 3rd paragraph: What kinds of animals and plants live in this ecosystem? What adaptations do these animals and plants have to live here? Are they herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores? Who are the predators and prey in your ecosystem?

PART 2 Make a DIORAMA out of a box or POSTER to show what your ecosystem looks like! Create your ecosystem by using craft supplies and items around your house or drawing or printing out pictures! Get as creative as you would like!

Ocean Ecosystem

Rainforest Ecosystem

Desert Ecosystem

Coral Reef

Tundra

Deciduous Forest

Taiga Ecosystem

Wetland Ecosystem

Grassland Ecosystem

PART 3 Create an imaginary animal that could live in your ecosystem! This is NOT a real animal. It must be adapted to the ecosystem you have chosen. Answer the following questions on an index card (4 to 7 sentences): • What is your animal’s name? (example- catdog) • What does it look like? • Is it a carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore? • What type of adaptations does it have to survive

PART 4 Draw or create your imaginary animal put it in your diorama or poster. You may use crayons, markers, colored pencils to draw OR create the imaginary animal with other craft supplies.
