Presentation transcript:

Athens the capital of Greece, is one of the most ancient and historical cities. First inhabited during the Neolithic period, with the first attempts to organize the city made in 1400 b.c. when the oldest of the Acropolis fortifying walls were built, Athens has played an important role in the historical evolution of Greece. Archaeological sites and monuments, such as the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Hephestos, the Temple of Zeus await to be discovered by the visitor. Moreover there are numerous Byzantine monuments that are worth visiting. Apart from its historical sites, however, Athens is a modern city where the visitor can spend pleasantly his or her time. One can visit museums, stroll around Plaka (a traditional part of the city), taste the greek cuisine, visit the commercial streets, the Olympic stadiums, the new Planetarium (the biggest and most modern in the world) and many more. Also, the nightlife of Athens offers many choices, with restaurants, bars, nightclubs etc. Climate – Weather Greece has a Mediterranean climate with plenty of sunshine, mild temperatures and a limited amount of rainfall. Due to the country's geographical position, its rugged relief and its distribution between the mainland and the sea, there is great variation in Greece's climate. In summer, the dry hot days are cooled by seasonal winds called the meltemi, while mountainous regions have generally lower temperatures. The winters are mild in lowland areas, with a minimum amount of snow and ice, yet, mountains are usually snow-covered. Moreover, a common phenomenon is the occurrence of different climactic conditions during the same season (for instance, mild heat in coastal areas and cool temperatures in mountainous regions). Athens

RHODES steeped in ancient history and boasting 300 days of blue skies each year. It lies at the southern end of the Dodecanese chain of islands that follows the line of the Turkish coast. CLIMATE The island enjoys a mild climate with adequate rainfall, which accounts for its profuse vegetation. In reality there are only two seasons: spring and summer. After November, when the first rains fall, the ground is carpeted with green and by February Rodos has become one vast flower garden. May sees the beginning of summer, when the earth gradually takes on a golden colour, until November, when the cycle starts again. On average, Rodos has 300 days of sunshine a year, while between April and October, the chances of uninterrupted sunshine are nearly one hundred per cent. During that period the temperature is in excess of 25 C. The summer heat is offset by a cooling, and sometimes strong, sea breeze. Rhodes Island It is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean and has been for many years, attracting relentless and overwhelming waves of visitors from March to November. The most popular beaches on Rhodes lie along the northern and eastern coastlines. To the north are high-rise conference complexes of glass and steel towering over narrow strips of shingle and buffeted by the northern winds. Down the east coast, from Rhodes to Lindos, are replicated rows of cement fun palaces.

Rhodes By Ferry Boat Rhodes Island can be reached from Piraeus port; Only normal ferries (no high speed) are offering service to Rhodes. The ferry needs approximately 13 hours to reach the island. Rhodes By Airplane Of course flying to Rhodes is much easier. Flight time from Athens to Rhodes is approximately 1 Hour. Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines have frequent daily flights to the island.
