 Design the landscape; use CAD, generally have a 4-5 year college degree. 

 To determine the exact landscape needs and desires of the homeowners  To determine the capabilities of the land  To develop the outdoor living areas of the landscape  To design the landscape in such a way that maintenance practices do not exceed that which the homeowner is willing to do  To keep the cost within the budget

 Number of family members and ages  Do they use the outdoors  Does the family entertain frequently  Desired privacy  Maintenance willingness  Plant likes and dislikes  Allergies to plants  Service needs – hiding the trash cans, do they want a vegetable garden  Using the garden after dark  Budget  Willingness to wait for plants to mature

 Dimensions of property  Quality of topsoil  Condition of the lawn  Types and condition of existing plants  Location of utility lines, meters, and easements  Good and bad views from the site  Locations of house, grass, open landscape  Style of neighborhood  Environmental setting – city, woods, etc…  Existing features – streams, rocks, wildlife habitat areas  ……….
