What are the topics? Sections 1 and 2 test the types of listening skills needed for basic survival in an English speaking country. So they are usually about accommodation (living), transportation (going around), entertainment, health, or shopping. IELTS Listening Test FAQ

Do the different sections use different task types? No, the task types (like finish the sentence or multiple choice) are chosen randomly. Are all of the sections equally difficult? No. The sections start easy and get more difficult. So section 4 is the most difficult. IELTS Listening Test FAQ

How do you record your answer? You will get a special paper called a Listening Question Paper during the test. Write down your answers there and later transfer them to the back part of the test called the Answer Sheet. IELTS Listening Test FAQ

Will I lose points if the test said NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS, even if one of my words is 'a' or 'the' ? Yes. Answers which exceed the word limit will be marked incorrect. How about spelling? Yes. Of course the wrong spelling of a word will lose you points. You can use US or UK spelling. IELTS Listening Test FAQ

Do I have time to read the questions before I have to listen? Yes. There is a few minutes to read the questions before it is time to listen. How many times can we listen to the recording? Only once. IELTS Listening Test FAQ
