Sebastian Amorin Book hardcover (I think) Stanley Yelnats Title: Holes Author: Louis Sachar Year published:1989 Type of book: Realistic Fiction

Setting The setting takes place mostly out in the desert at some parts of the book there are some flashbacks to when he got arrested and to where his no-good-dirty- rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather lived and the history of his life.

characters The main character is Stanley Yelnats or caveman he is very compassionate of his “friends” at camp green lake and also very dense since he is not very bright. Then comes Hector or Zero, Zero doesn’t have much of a personality but one thing is for sure he is extremely evasive he refuses to answer any questions that anyone but Stanley asks him. Next is Theodore or armpit he is very aggressive when you provoke him but other than that he is very normal X-ray is like the “leader of the tent ” or like the boss so he is very arrogant and everybody does as he says so that doesn’t help To me those are the most important characters in the story.

Problem/conflict Soon after Stanley arrives he learns that they are not just digging to build character the warden wants something and Stanley wants to know the truth he wants to know what they are looking for and why.

resolution Fate conspires to resolve it all—the family curse, the mystery of the holes, the drought that destroyed Green Lake, and also, the legend of Kissing Kate Barlow, an infamous outlaw of the Wild West. The great wheel of justice has ground slowly for generations, but now it is about to reveal its secret when Stanley finds out the truth behind all those holes.

My opinion Well I don’t read that much, so for a book to get me interested it has to be a very good book. I thought it was funny scary and suspenseful an amazing book that I recommend to all.

The author fun facts! He started to love reading in high school. He worked as a teacher's aide for a class and loved it. From there he became the "Noon Time Supervisor." This is when he came to be called "Louis, the Yard Teacher." The idea Sideway Stories from Wayside School came from a book called In Our Town by Damon Runyon. He writes five to six drafts of each of his books. He never talks about a book until he is finished. He plays bridge and tennis. His wife is a counselor at an elementary school. She was the inspiration for the counselor in one of his books. Co-wrote the screenplay for his book, Holes.

My five questions Why did that old lady that saw Ms. Katherine and Sam kissing didn’t keep it to herself? Did Stanley's great grandfather said god’s thumb because the mountain looked like a thumb? I ask myself and y’all if Stanley's no-good-dirty-rotten-pig- stealing-great-great-grandfather actually forgot or he just didn’t feel like carrying Madame Zeroni up the mountain? Would you think, if camp green lake actually existed, it would be legal or considered humane? Do you think that if Ms. Katherine’s peaches were so good she should have sold them?

My summary Stanley comes from a poor family and he’s never been to camp before so when he gets convicted of stealing a pair of shoes and gets a choice between jail and camp green lake he chooses camp but green lake is nothing like he expected it to be, soon enough Stanley figures out that they are not just digging for character but the warden wants something and Stanley wants to know what. With his buddy zero he must find out what it is!
