Four Wheel Drive

1.What are the two types of four wheel drive? - Constant four wheel drive, and part time four wheel drive.

Four Wheel Drive 2. How does part time four wheel drive work? - It uses a transfer case. The transfer case is connected to the transmission and there are drivelines going from the transfer case to the front differterential and the rear differential.

Four Wheel Drive 3. How does full time four wheel drive work? - It uses a transaxle and that is all, the transmission and front differential are all one piece. A drive line goes to the back differential.

Four Wheel Drive 4.What is over run? - On a part time four wheel drive system you cannot drive on dry pavement with 4 wheel drive engaged because of this phenomenon. This type of system makes the front wheels and back wheel turn at different speeds, so some skidding has to take place. If you are on dry pavement, it will damage internal gears unless disengaged.

Four Wheel Drive 4.What type of 4 wheel drive does Mr. Mentze drive? - Ask me sometime if you cannot figure it out….
