Eikev “Because” Deuteronomy/Devarim 7:12-11:25 “An Attitude of Gratitude”

Deuteronomy 7:12 Then it shall come about, because (Eikev) you listen to these judgments and keep and do them, that the LORD your God will keep with you His covenant and His loving-kindness which He swore to your forefathers.

What is an attitude of gratitude? The Lord blesses us because he loves us and wants to take care of us and meet our needs. Our Torah portion this week deals with being thankful for our meals.

Deuteronomy 8:10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you.

Thanking God For Meals While they were eating, Yeshua took bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." (Mattityahu 26:26) We do not bless the food but we bless God for providing the food. Blessing God before or after meals is an important way of giving thanks to God.

You Are What You Eat What happens when people eat things that are not good for them? An ancient Rabbi said, "Wisdom is to the soul, as food is to the body." Yeshua quoted from our Torah portion this week about the importance of what we really need to eat.

Deuteronomy 8:3 “Man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD”

Living on Bread Alone? People, unlike animals, need "meaning" in life. What do you think that something, or someone is that fills us up? Only Yeshua can, because He is God’s Word.

Yeshua the Bread of Life Only Yeshua can meet our spiritual needs. Often Yeshua is referred to as the Bread of Life.

Yeshua Only Yeshua Fills the Gap in our Soul
