Introduction Since the year 2000, field observations to provide suitable Energy for developing Countries revealed that they were disadvantaged by lack of sufficient electricity. It was found that the only means of lighting for these Regions were: -Candles -Hurricane lamp oil (kerosene lamp) -Firewood. It was also found that these lighting methods created the following problems: (1) As daily consumer goods, lamp oil or candles are costly. (2) Kerosene is harmful to the eyes and lungs, especially to the children. (3) Firewood collection is hard, daily work for the women and the children. (4) This practice is also bad for the environment. (5) More than 80% of fires in rural areas are caused by the above three things. To overcome these problems, a Low Cost Solar Lighting Kit SRY-001 has been developed to assist these developing Countries.

Introduction (continued) Low Cost Solar Lighting Kit SRY-01consists of a solar panel, power supply box and LED bulb (very low energy consumption, only 1W) and is currently regarded as the best lighting solution for people in remote areas, especially in rural Africa, Asia & Pacific Islands. NI-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) rechargeable battery is used instead of lead-acid battery or NI- CD battery because of its long life, no memory effect, non-toxic, environmentally friendly. It is important that solar lights (solar lantern, solar lighting kit, etc.) for developing countries, must have the following three fundamentals. (1). LOW COST (because the potential users are poor) (2). DURABLE (long life, no danger for the children, no special knowledge needed to maintain and operate the devices) (3). EASYTO USE /EASY TO INTALL(most users are not well trained. The simpler, the better) You may find many solar lanterns on the market, but most of them are only a combination of a solar panel and a lantern which was designed for camping or emergency, and they can not meet the demand of the users living in developing counties, such as Africa, Asia or Pacific Islands.
