Eric the Holy  When he landed in Finland during the first crusade the Swedish king, Eric the Holy, saw a yellow cross in the sky  He saw it as a sign from God and put it into the flag design

Some Other Theories  The flag was a resistance act against the Danish flag which has a white cross and is red  The flag was blue with a white cross until 1420 when Gustaf Vasa changed it to a golden cross
