Writing Linear Equation using slope-intercept form

Slope – Intercept Form y = mx + b m represents the slope b represents the y-intercept

To write an equation you need to know the Slope and Y-intercept There are three types of problems: 1) Given slope and y-intercept 2) Given only slope and one point 3) Given two points

Ex: Write an equation given: m=2 and b=6 y = mx + b y = 2x + 6

a) y = -3x – 4 b) y = -4x – 3 c) y = -3x + 4 d) y = -4x + 3

a) y = 2 b) y = 2x c) x = 2 d) y = -2

a) y = 1/2x+1 b) y = x+1/2 c) y = 1/2x d) y = x

Ex: Write an equation given: slope of 3 and goes through the point (2,1) y – intercept (b) = ????? y = mx + b 1 = 3(2) + b b=-5 Equation  y=3x-5

a) y = -1/3x – 4 b) y= 1/3x + 7 c) y = -1/3x -7 d) y = -1/3x +7

a) y = 1 b) y= x c) x = 1 d) y = x+1

Ex: Write an equation of the line that goes through (-2, 1) and (4, 2). Find slope: Now a Type 2 Problem

a) y = 3x + 4 b) y = 3x + 1 c) y = -3x + 4 d) y = -3x + 1

a) y = 2x + 8 b) y = -2x + 8 c) y = 2x - 8 d) y = -2x - 8

 Write an equation of a line that is parallel to and passes through the point (-4, 6).

 Write the equation of the line passing through the given point and perpendicular to the given line.
