Purpose This lesson introduces the Army rank structure.

1. Identify Army officer rank, grade, and insignia. 2. Identify the Army enlisted rank, grade, and insignia. 3. Differentiate between Army officer and enlisted rank and insignia. 4. Identify Army officer and enlisted rank structure in sequence.

Army soldiers, just like other military personnel, are classified by rank and grade.

 Congress adopted an American Continental Army on June 14,  Each company’s rank structure consisted of: one captain three lieutenants four sergeants four corporals one drummer (or horn player) 68 privates

 The Army rank structure consists of officers, warrant officers, and enlisted personnel.  Army officer and warrant officer ranks and grades are the same as the Marine Corps’ rank and grades.  The enlisted grades are the E-1 through E-9, but the rank titles and insignia are different.
