STAGES OF MITOSIS
What is Mitosis? Mitosis is a cell division that results in two daughter cells having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent cell.
Prior to Mitosis: INTERPHASE
Steps in Interphase The longest phase in which the cell is dormant. Cell gets ready to go through cell division. Chromosome number doubles.
Phase 1 of Mitosis PROPHASE
Steps in Prophase Centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell. A spindle develops. The nuclear membrane breaks down. *Chromosomes PAIR up.*
Phase 2 METAPHASE
Steps in Metaphase Chromosomes move to the MIDDLE of the cell and line up.
Phase 3 ANAPHASE
Steps in Anaphase Chromosomes MOVE APART to opposite ends of the cell along the spindle.
Phase 4 TELOPHASE
Steps in Telophase Chromosomes begin to uncoil. The nucleolus reappears.
After Mitosis CYTOKINESIS
Steps in Cytokinesis The cytoplasm divides forming two new cells. The cell membrane reforms around the new cells.
REMEMBER… Pro Met Ana (called her on the) Telo(phone) They talked about: Cytokinesis
Cell Cycle Mitotic division The dividing and non-dividing stages in the life of a cell. Phases: Interphase: growth and DNA replication 1. Prophase 2. Metaphase 3. Anaphase 4. Telophase Mitotic division
