The Edith Cavell Project, Swardeston Common.

An anamorphic ground painting plus other artwork

A maths, history and art installation

made by six girls from Yr 9

with the help of teachers and volunteers.

about Nurse Edith Cavell, a local heroine

executed by German firing squad in1915.

The village hall became a window gallery.

...or a kind of light box.

Spaces were filled with her image

and the posters shone with light on the inside.

The stencils we used could be spied within.

A timeline showed outside.

Words Edith said about herself were shown

and she was described in French & German.

We wanted to explore her iconic status Our

and publicise her story and her example.

so we chose to combine street art and pop art.

We made an anamorphic grid

then painted a stretched portrait of Edith

using white ground paint, teamwork,

concentration and confidence.

Many visitors enjoyed our interpretation of Edith We

and we were all inspired by our experience. We

I hope your students feel they have accomplished something really creative which makes a great visual impact with power to make people pause and reflect and want to find out more about her story and what it means.” Revd. Paul Burr, Vicar of St. Mary’s Church, Swardeston.
