Grade 12 Presentation

 Mealy Mountain Collegiate has a post- secondary funding assistance program with many awards donated by local businesses and individuals.  Awards are distributed among all deserving applicants (with respect to criteria) in the hopes of providing some support to all applying students.

Through the school there are two types of awards available: 1. Awards with a separate application, in which the organizations/individuals sponsoring the award decide on the winner (or narrow down the selection). 2. Awards which are decided upon based on a single school application, and in which the recipients are decided upon by a committee.

Awards with a separate application include: 1. Neil Simon Memorial Scholarship (MMC and outside students) 2. Lake Melville NLTA 3. GAFTTC 4. HV-GB Rotary Club 5. Terrington Co-op 6. Kinsmen and Kinettes 7. Lake Melville X-treme Minor Hockey 8. Expo Labrador 9. Steve Ramey Memorial

 There are over 30 awards offered through the single school application  All awards specify different criteria such as:  Area of study (mechanics, medicine, engineering, music, science, banking)  Financial Need  Leadership  Academic Ability  Contribution to School and Community

All applications (for both those requiring a separate application and the school booklet) are available on the guidance website at or on the guidance news bulletin board.

The Deadline for all applications is the last Friday in May. This deadline is firm. Applications will not be excepted after this date. Students are encouraged to apply even if not currently sure is attending post- secondary next year. Students will be contacted in the fall for proof of enrollment. Reference Letters are due by the date – it is the student’s responsibility to ensure their referees return their forms to the school. *** Exception: Dr. Neil Simon Memorial. This award deadline varies yearly. Usually in April.

The School Scholarship Booklet involves 3 main Sections: 1. The listing of Scholarships and Criteria 2. The Application  Personal Information  Program Information  Academic Information  Awards  School Involvement  Community Involvement  Employment  Financial Need 3. Referee Statements (1 School and 1 outside school)

The listing of scholarships indicates the criteria for each scholarship. You are to READ the criteria and check off the scholarships with criteria you suit. Consider the area of study, aboriginal status, community involvement, leadership. NOTE – Do NOT allow financial need to be a deterrent for not applying. ALL STUDENTS have financial need of some sort.
