FACILITATOR TRAINING TRIBES at CCM

How is the volunteer culture of the church similar? So you want to Volunteer?

RECIPE FOR SUCCESS What does a successful Small Group look like?

What does this picture say to you about your role as a facilitator? Question

Creating A Safe Tribe  Confidentiality is MANDATORY  Wear nametags at the beginning  Allow for discussion  Avoid putting people on the spot  Facilitate and manage the discussion  Respect Each Other  Begin and end on time  Share feelings as feelings and not as fact  Agree to disagree  Welcome feedback and share it  PRAY-for your group members regularly

MAXIMIZE THE LEARNING Make the most out of your time together

Plan With a Purpose SO WHAT? What do you want your participants to walk away knowing at the end of each day?  Study your material  Know your audience  Have an introduction planned  Plan your discussion  Have a conclusion in mind  Put yourself in the material  Stick to a schedule  Create a safe environment to share

The Importance of DISCUSSION  10% of what we read  20% of what we hear  30% of what we see  50% of what we see and hear  70% of what we discuss with others  80% of what we experience personally  95% of what we teach to others According to the William Glasser Institute, we retain:

1. Provide Seconds 2. Restate the Question The Importance of Space

Listening is Essential  God, what are you doing in this person’s heart right now?  Father, help me to hear what she is really saying  God, what kind of response do you want me to make?  Ask specific questions  Ask specific people  Do not make eye- contact  Interrupt and redirect  Ask for help  Pray for the person & continue While Listening? Pray for WisdomWhen he/she won’t take a breath?

Housekeeping  What does the “Between the Trees” study look like?  How will we get the material?  What do I need to fill out?  Who will be the host for my tribe?  How do I know who will be in my tribe?  How should we deal with child care?  What should I do if I need a substitute facilitator?  Any more questions?

Feeling Inadequate? Remember: “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called”
