Water features of the United States There are three large bodies of water that surround The United States. Atlantic Ocean is to the east of Memphis and boarders the eastern states such as, New York, Georgia, North Carolina, Maine, etc… Pacific Ocean is to the west of Memphis and boarders the western states, California, Washington, and Oregon. Gulf of Mexico is to the south of Memphis. This boarders Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, etc…
