Mitosis, Meiosis, Cell Cycle Control, Cyclin, Checkpoints, Cyclin-Dependent kinase, External and Internal WHAT THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MITOSIS It is a process in which a eukaryotic cell splits into 2, which is formed into 2 daughter cells It includes: Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase/ Cytokinesis

Mitosis

Meiosis A process that divides parent cells to make half genetic formula from each parent Includes: Meiosis 1- Prophase 1, metaphase 1, Anaphase 1, and Telophase 1/ Cytokinesis Meiosis 2- Prophase 2, Metaphase 2, Anaphase 2, and Telophase 2

Cell Cycle Control Contains 3 Checkpoints ( points where stop/ go signals regulate the cell cycle) Checkpoints are: G1- Most important!!!, G2, and M-spindle (metaphase)

Internal Regulatory Molecules A group of proteins that control the progression of cells in the cell cycle by activating CDK (Cyclin- Dependent Kinase) Cyclin levels fluctuate into the cells Specific cyclin: CDK complex that allows cells to pass G2 and go to and go to the M phase

External Regulatory Factors Growth factor: proteins released by other cells to stimulate cell division Density-dependent inhibition: crowded cells normally stop dividing; cell- surface protein binds to adjoining to inhibit growth Anchorage dependence: cells must be attached to another cell or extracellular matrix to divide
