Why is it necessary to maintain law and order? To maintain peace among the people. To ensure that trading activities can be carried out smoothly.

Problems British faced in maintaining law & order Main problem in the 1820s: crime. – Arrival of more immigrants  made keeping law and order more difficult. From mid-1850s, British government faced other major problems…and implemented measures in an attempt to resolve these problems.

Queen Victoria’s Orders I wish to learn more about what the British government has done to maintain law and order in Singapore. I want your committee to evaluate the measures that the British government took and explain how we can make improvements OR even implement new measures.

TASK: Queen Victoria’s Committees You are to refer to the textbook p63-67 and the information assigned to your committee. You should decide and explain if the British government should – Continue with the measures the government implemented – Make improvements to these measures, OR – Implement new measures.

What have you learnt? Why law and order is necessary Problems the British faced in maintaining law and order. Measures the British implemented to maintain law and order. Suggestions on how the British could have better managed law and order.
