Welcome to the Carl M Small Regional Agriculture Program

Do you like… Fish? Caring for pets? Fixing engines? Growing flowers? Being outdoors? Building Things? Riding Horses? Driving Tractors A career in Agriculture may be the right choice for you!

What is Agriculture Science and Technology? AgSci is an educational program that is part of Southington High School AgSci prepares students for a career in agriculture and related fields.

What is Agriculture? The science, art, and business of using plants, animals, natural resources, and technology to produce food, fiber and other useful products. The Agriculture Industry –20% of all careers in the U.S. are in the field of agriculture –Only 1% of agricultural careers are related to farming –The remaining 99% agricultural careers are related to biotechnology, agribusiness, communications and education

Supervised Agricultural Experience Program A project, relative to agriculture, completed outside of the classroom. Allows students to learn new skills, earn money, compete for recognition, win awards, develop work ethic, build a résumé, and explore careers while still in high school. Current SAE’s of students include: animal care, veterinary assistant, dog training, volunteering at animal shelters, floral design, landscaping, agricultural sales and service, and equine care. SAE

FAQ 1.How much does this program cost? NOTHING!! AgSci is a State Funded Program that you are able to attend at no cost? 2. How do I get to and from Southington? Transportation to and from Southington High is provided to you by your town, busses pick students up at their house or a near by bus stop.

FAQ 3. Do I Stay in Ag-science all day? NO! Ag-Science students take regular classes with other students at Southington High and then spend 1-2 Periods in Ag- Science.

FAQ 4.Can I play sports or participate in other clubs? Absolutely! Southington High School Has many opportunities for people who play sports or wish to join clubs. All Ag-Science students are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities and be involved in every aspect of student life.
