The Ten Commandments You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not commit adultery You shall not steal You shall not make for yourself a carved image… You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain… Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. The Promise of the Mosaic Covenant: God’s Grace “Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of the law. For it is no empty word for you, but YOUR VERY LIFE, and by this word you shall live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.” Deut 32:46-47 “You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess.” Deut 5:33

Jesus & the Ten Commandments “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. “You have heard it said…” “You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.” “But I say to you…” “…everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment...” Matthew 5:21&22

“You have heard it said…” “You shall not commit adultery.”” “But I say to you…” “that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

The Mosaic Covenant: Revelation “What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. 11 For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.” Romans 7:7-12
