Chinese Calligraphy and Language By Filipp madubuko and Reid Ross-williams

Introduction Chinese calligraphy and language are important to the Chinese people. Without them there would be no way to speak or write. There would be no books or dictionary. They are very interesting subjects.

Material of calligraphy The calligraphy brush is usually made of wood and fine animal hairs like bear, rabbit and goat hairs. Chinese use different brushes to make different strokes. Four essential implements of Chinese calligraphy are ; ink brush, ink, paper and ink stone. The other three things used are water droppers, desk pads and paperweights

Importance of calligraphy in the olden days The olden days Chinese needed calligraphy more than ever. There was so much war that it would be dangerous to take one step out of the great wall. So if you had friends or family outside of China you would have to send notes. without calligraphy you would not be able to communicate with people outside of China.

Importance of calligraphy now Calligraphy is important now for not only writing but also for technology. People have to use writing to program phones and other devices. I believe calligraphy will always be important.

WHAT PEOPLE MOSTLY SPEAK In china people mostly people speak mandarin more than any other language. Mandarin is china’s most national language, taught in schools across the country. And used on the television or radio. But in each province and even in different towns and village’s people speak their own dialect. Some of these are so distant that many people around the country cannot understand each other unless they use mandarin. I think that is kind of strange. Do you?

Chinese language Speaking in Chinese On a tiny part of Hong Kong they use signs like In the “NYC”. The title of the people daily newspaper uses a typeface based on chairman Mao’s own handwriting. A Chinese dictionary home is up to 56,000 characters and people need to learn over 6,000 to read a good book. I think Chinese language is really interesting. Many people believe in china the number 8 is lucky because it sounds like the word “to get rich”. The Chinese language has no alphabet. I think it is a bit strange that the Chinese has no alphabet because it must be hard to learn. Because I think it is easier with the alphabet.
